Safeguarding Policy

  TYNDALE BAPTIST CHURCH READING

Policy statement on Children, Young people, adults at risk and the Church

This policy statement was read to church members by DPS at the annual general meeting on 30th March 2023.

The church recognises its responsibilities for the safeguarding of all the children and young people

Under the age of 18 and adults at risk regardless of gender, ethnicity or ability.

As members of Tyndale Baptist Church, we commit ourselves to the nurturing, protection and safeguarding of all children, young people and adults at risk within our church and we will pray for them regularly. To do this we commit ourselves to the following policies and to ensure their implementation.

1.   Prevention and reporting of abuse

It is the duty of every church member and every member of the wider church family to prevent the

physical, sexual and emotional abuse of children, young people and adults at risk. It is the duty of all to respond to concerns about the well-being of children, young people and adults at risk and to report any abuse disclosed, discovered or suspected. The church will cooperate with any statutory investigation into any suspected abuse linked to the church.

2.   Safe recruitment, support, and supervision of workers

All workers will be properly checked and will be provided with appropriate training, support and

supervision to promote safeguarding of children, young people and adults at risk.

3.   Respecting children, young people, and adults at risk

The church will adopt a code of behaviour for all who work with children, young people and adults at risk. So that they are shown the respect that is due to them.

4.   Safe working practices

The church is committed to provide a safe environment for children, young people and adults at risk

to be in.

5.   A safe community

The church is committed to prevent bullying of children, young people and adults at risk in the

church. Anyone who may pose a risk to children, young people and adults at risk will be managed

appropriately.

6.   Responsible people

The church has safeguarding trustees to advise the church on any matters related to safeguarding of children and young people and adults at risk and take the appropriate action when abuse is disclosed, discovered or suspected.

The role of the Safeguarding Trustees is to support the work of Safeguarding in our church.

Safeguarding trustees of the church are Frank Pond and Maureen Keeble.

The roles of safeguarding trustees are to oversee and monitor implementation of the policy and procedures.

Policy and procedures

A paper copy of the policy statement will be in the box by the front door.

A digital copy of the policy statement will be available to all church members and friends on request.

Leaders and helpers who work with children, young people and adults at risk will be given a copy.

The policy and procedures will be monitored and reviewed annually.

The policy statement will be read annually at the church’s annual general meeting.
